EMB Agar (Eosin Methylene Blue Agar), with the scientific name Eosin Methylene Blue Agar, is a differential culture medium for the isolation and identification of gram-negative Enteric bacilli (Enterobacteriaceae). This agar is composed of eosin Y and methylene blue, which serve as indicators of lactose fermentation. EMB Agar is a selective and differential medium used for the detection and identification of coliforms, particularly Escherichia coli and other enteric microorganisms, in food, water, and environmental samples.
